Christy Muncey is a 2005 graduate of Colorado State University where she received her Bachelor's of Music in Music Education. During her undergraduate, Ms. Muncey was Drum Major in the marching band for four years, was the principal flute in the Wind Ensemble for three and a half years, and played one year in the Symphonic Orchestra. She received the Most Inspirational Band Member award as well as the prestigious Wendel Diebel Award for outstanding performing as a music major. As a flute player, Ms. Muncey has studied with Kelly Via, Gred LaLiberte, and Julie Duncan-Thornton. As a student of Mr. Via, Ms. Muncey performed at the National Flute Convention in Atlanta, GA in 1999 as a member of the Atlanta Metro Youth Flute Choir. Mrs. Muncey has taught high school band camps across the country as a music & visual instructor. After graduation, Ms. Muncey played the 2008-2009 season with the Metro Symphony Orchestra, and currently plays with the Thornton Community Band. Ms. Muncey spent five years, from 2005 to 2010, as the Intstrumental Music Director at Wheat Ridge High School. During her time at Wheat Ridge, Ms. Muncey was in charge of the marching band, Symphonic Winds, orchestra, jazz band, and music theory, as well as conducted the orchestra for Wheat Ridge's musical productions. Ms. Muncey is currently studying instrumental conducting at Colorado State University with Wes Kenny. Ms. Muncey's conducting teachers include Mr. Kenny and J. Steven Moore. |
Michelle Lewis brings 30 years of flute performance to Flute Salad. Ms. Lewis received a Master's degree in Music Education from Northwest Missouri State University and taught band and choir for 10 years. She is a vocalist as well, and has composed and arranged pieces for the ensemble. Ms. Lewis is also an active member of the Silverwinds Flute Choir. |
| Deborah Ray brings nearly 10 years of music experience, including piano composition and flute performance. Ms. Ray discovered her love of classical music as a member of the Tulsa Ballet Theater, in which she performed and toured with during her teenage years. Ms. Ray began her music studies on the piano and clarinet, and later focused her interest on the flute. A member of the Colorado Flute Association, Ms. Ray plays concert flute and alto flute in Flute Salad. Ms. Ray was featured in the July 2009 issue of Colorado Flute Association Newsletter. She continues her flute studies under Dr. Christine Potter. |
Christy, Michelle, and Deborah are also flautists with the Thornton Community Band.
